Black lives matter controversy strike on Lungi

Black lives matter controversy strike on Lungi Ngidi of South Africa. No games due to COVID 19 but Lungi believes that everything will be fine once team members will meet together and will have discuss on it.

Black Lives matter controversy strike on Lungi Ngidi of South Africa. In the 21st century, still there are countries where black lives matter still exist, people discriminate on the basis of black and white. And this discrimination affects in many ways. A person misses good opportunities only because he is either white or black in colour. And this also affect that particular organisation who misses out such skilled person.

Black lives matter controversy in South Africa

Generally a sport person never think of racism. Team is a combination of skilled and talented players and the combination never relies on cast and race. But sometimes players have to face the same problem. Players have to leave the sport due to the ongoing situation of their country and they became the victim of politics.

One of the best example of such incidents were of Zimbabwe. There was a time when Zimbabwe was a known team in Cricket. Post 2003 World Cup, Black lives matter controversy strike Zimbabwe and there after the team was completely changed. Tatenda Taibu replaced Heath Streak as a captain at the age of 20 and became the youngest captain in the history of the game. Also read Shakib Al Hasan: Sensation Of CWC 2019

More over that was the decline of Zimbabwe’s cricket. A team with all new faces entered in the international cricket with unexperienced player. The team went on to number of defeats over the next few months. Zimbabwe played 34 matches in all formats over the next 17 months and won just two. The game has never been the same again for Zimbabwe. The main reason was Black Lives Matter controversy.

South African speedster Lungi Ngidi is a supporter of Black Lives Matter but was slammed by former South African players Pat Symcox, Boeta Dippenaar and others for not speaking up against the attacks on white farmers in the country. Both Symcox and Dippenaar raised the issue of a recent murders of several farmers, mainly white, who have been killed, sometimes in brutal circumstances. Dippenaar further added: “All lives matter. If you want me to stand shoulder to shoulder with you Lungi then stand shoulder to shoulder with me with regards to farm attacks.”

Some African players came ahead in Lungi’s support in black lives matter controversy. South Africa’s spin bowler Tabraiz Shamsi tweeted, “I am right behind you Ngidi,” and Vince van der Bijl, a former fast bowler and ex-International Cricket Council umpiring chief, supported Ngidi. He wrote on his Facebook , “I stand alongside Lungi Ngidi in Black Lives Matter,” Lungi himself said, “We have spoken about it and everyone is well aware of what’s going on. It’s a difficult one because we are not together, so it’s hard to discuss. But once we get back to playing that is definitely something we have to address as a team.”

The Black Lives Matter controversy movement gathered momentum following the death of African-American man George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer in United States. South Africa has a history of segregation. Although the cricket team now has a fair representation of coloured players as per CSA’s policy but things were different prior to the country’s isolation in 1970, when sports team were made up of white players only.

Racism on any basis have never been good for a country. We all wish that black lives matter controversy should not be the part of any team and this ongoing issue in South Africa should be over as soon as possible. Lungi has been wonderful for last few years for South Africa and if the current situation of his country become obstacle then we may not see him again in International cricket the same way we lost top players of Zimbabwe.
