Challenge For Indian Seamers : Unorthodox Steve Smith

Is it not a challenge for Indian Seamers to Bowl Unorthodox Steve Smith in the coming Test series between Ind and Aus.

All Indian fans have set their eyes on the coming series of India tour of Australia. It is going to be a challenge for Indian Seamers to bowl unorthodox Steve Smith. The real test of Indian pace attack with some swing. Indian pace attack comprises of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. All these bowlers have proven their excellency in test matches. For last year specially Mohammad Shami. In the second half of the innings Shami had given such a fantastic results to India and became the reason of India’s win in recent past.

India had won their maiden Test series 2-1 in Australia in 2018-19 but mind you Steve Smith, world’s no one test batsman, was serving one year ball tampering suspension when India won series. David Warner was also among the list of banned players.

India seems quite good in test matches with its bowling line  up. It would be more interesting for us to watch India’s planning for unorthodox Steve Smith. Former England skipper Michael Artherton says,”It is very difficult to win in Australia without a strong seam bowling attack.” Artherton further added, “If everybody played the same way, it’s a boring game. I love the fact that Steve Smith is quite different and he has success because of that. It makes more interesting game for me, but I don’t have any answer how to get Smith out.”

It would be really interesting to watch the series. Indian seamers have challenges in form of Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and David Warner.  Australian bowlers will also have challenges in form of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Cheteswar Pujara. It is not easy for Indian batsmen to face Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood. But Rohit Sharma‘s game should also make him a candidate for success on bouncy Australian tracks. He love to hit boundaries on short pitch or bouncer deliveries and we are expecting such bowling from Australian bowlers.

Apart from Rohit, it is Indian skipper Virat Kohli, whose Test ranking is behind the Steve Smith, who thrashed every bowler of the world in India or overseas. Australia ranks one in Test and India ranks third. Both team seems equally balanced.

Reason of calling Smith Unorthodox batsman

Top order is so important in Australia for both teams. Because if any team gives good start there then it is going to give advantages to the middle order batsman as it becomes batting friendly as soon as kookaburra ball lose its shine. So team’s win depend on the start given by the opener pairs of the team.

Now it would be more interesting to watch players back on to the field. Almost no International games have taken place due to COVID 19 this year. Every player has done a lot of net practice but mind you field situation is far ahead of the net practices. Cricket fans have waited for the series and they are expecting no delay for the same.

India holds poor Test records in Australia. India won only 7 Test matches out of 48 matches played in Australia. 12 Test matches got draw and 29 matches won by Australia. Now the challenges increase for Indian seamers because of unorthodox batsman Steve Smith. Not only for Indian seamers unorthodox batsmen have always been a challenge for bowlers. MS Dhoni, AB De Villiers and Glenn Maxwell also known as unorthodox batsman and have been challenge for bowlers. Their technique makes them different from the rest of the batsman and they never stand behind from those technically sound batsman of the Cricket world.
