The ICC World Test Championship started from the Ashes series between Australia and England on 01 Aug 2019.  It featured nine of the twelve Test-playing nations.

Every team was scheduled to play a Test series against six of the other eight teams. All teams were to play six series, three at home and three away.

Each team was able to score a maximum of 120 points from each series and the two teams with the most points at the end of the league stage would contest the final.

India and New Zealand made a place in the top 2 teams during that period and set for the finals at The Rose Bowl, Southampton, England from June 18 to June 22.

What are the reasons behind India’s defeat to New Zealand is something we are going to discuss. The reasons are as under:

RAIN FACTOR:

Again Rain played a vital role in this decider match. India went with two spinners so that they get an advantage if the wicket gets drier in the fourth inning of the match.

Because of Continuous rain, the pitch did not get dry and keep helping fast bowlers. And you watched the result in the second inning of India.

And we can say it was one of the biggest reasons behind India’s defeat to New Zealand.

Toss:

Virat could not make the toss in India’s favor. It was already anticipated that the team which wins the toss is going to field first.

New Zealand had the early advantage of winning the toss and putting India in to bat.

The first day of the test match was cloudy and there was moisture over the wicket which helped New Zealand fast bowlers since they were playing the match without spinners.

New Zealand advantage over India:

Pitches and weather in England offer a good amount of swing and pace, which help the fast bowlers. These conditions are very similar to that of New Zealand grounds.

Therefore, New Zealand found home-like conditions in England while India had to adapt to the conditions.

New Zealand played the last Test series in England. It gave more ideas and experience to NZ players for the coming World Test Championship.

The conditions became more favorable for New Zealand after playing Test Series against England.

Indian Bowlers Performance:

Indian bowlers did not get swing as compared to New Zealand bowlers. One of the biggest facts of India’s defeat is that Jasprit Bumrah did not get any wicket.

New Zealand bowlers did their job quite well and made the game easy for their batsmen. Kyle Jamieson and Tim Southee put pressure on Indian batsmen with their swings.

India Played With Two Spinners:

India played with Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin. We can say it was another reason behind India’s defeat to New Zealand.

Ravindra Jadeja was not in use as expected. He was used less in bowling too. Though Jadeja has good records in England but this time did not come into use.

Instead of Ravindra Jadeja if Shardul Thakur or Hardik Pandya would be there it would help India in the bowling department and in batting as well.

Somehow India also missed Bhuwneshwar Kumar in the wicket which was favoring seam bowlers.

Failure of Cheteshwar Pujara:

reasons behind India's defeat to New Zealand in world test championship

One of the key batsman for India in the Test, Cheteshwar Pujara was unable to score.

Although he stayed there in the wicket a little longer than other players of the team but still India expects more from him.

It was yet another reasons behind India’s defeat to New Zealand.
